Eating From My Garden
Before I left last Monday, I harvested my basil and cilantro. I was stunned with how much basil I produced. It filled an entire colander. I had less cilantro, but it was so fragrant.
I rinsed both well and laid the leaves between layers of paper towel, and sealed the paper and leaves in a ziploc freezer bag. I put the bags at the top of the refrigerator, as suggested in my gardening website.
Today I used the basil to make a wonderful pesto. It was fabulous, and made even better by realizing that I was eating something I had managed to grow all by myself! To celebrate this honor, I opened my $40 bottle of Chalk Hill Merlot. Just lovely.
And the harvested basil plants are continuing to grow to provide more good eats. The cilantro, however, has bolted. Oh well.
