The Torment of the Cribs

Is there something in my genetic makeup that seems to direct me toward things that are just too freaking expensive? Do I have the diva gene? If so, is there a way to do some gene splicing to correct this malfunction in me?

This week, I see this DucDuc crib and fall in love:

I adore the wood, the simple lines…but why does the damn thing have to be $1450? Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Good lord! My bed didn’t cost as much as this damn crib does.

A few others are second choices:

All of these are still more than I anticipated paying for a crib. The second, at least, is $650. And yes, I have been unable to find anything I like at Babies R Us, Bellini or God-forbid, Walmart. (I say God forbid only because my politics won’t let me shop at Walmart.)

Anyone know of any DucDuc knockoffs? Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I like the one with the little bookshelves on the end.

I like the one with the circles on the end.

We have a Pali, but it looks like your taste is more modern. I bet M would have some good suggestions.

You thought I was kidding when I said the Orbit was cheap compared to the cribs. I KNEW you’d love the DucDuc. I just knew it. Unfortunately the only knockoff I know is at Walmart.

Room and Board has a couple of new modernish cribs. There’s one called the moda that I think you might like. It’s 799 but converts to toddler bed for 89 more. There’s also a sweet changing table that fits on the crib or dresser (much like the Oeuf).

And Bellini is no cheaper than what you’re looking at. ;)

You could keep checking craigslist and ebay. They sometimes have really good listings.

I think part of the problem is modern cribs are only popular in larger cities. It’s actually only been in the last couple of years you could even find any modern looking cribs.

Oh, and if you start thinking about high chairs I have some suggestions as well. There’s the Calla by Fleurville but it’s $700. Boon has a sweet new chair that will be super easy to clean and run ya 200-400 (the pricier one has a stainless steel base).
