Couldn’t Resist
No, this isn’t the travel story yet. It is a travel story, though.
When I removed my knitting bag from my suitcase, I discovered that I had broken one of my favorite Lantern Moon knitting needles. I was pissed. They were my size 8 ebony needles that were actually black (normally the Ebony needles come in shades of dark brown. It is rare to get a black set. Did I mention that these puppies are not cheap either? I hope that AdoringHusband can glue it together in such a way that I can still knit, but in the meantime, here I am 3000 miles away from home without my size 8s to knit my baby bunting.
Enter Google. I found a yarn store nearby and with the help of my GPS, visited a cute little store in Old Town, San Diego, leaving with a set of Lantern Moon 8s (12 inch and not my preferred 14 inch…and brown, not black…oh well.)
Next door there was a cute baby store. Donning my Mommy Hat, I went in to look at the cool diaper bags she had. Next think I know, I was fussing over the cute clothes. The woman working in the store asked if she could help. I explained that we were adopting, and then she said it.
“You’re so brave to adopt.”
I rolled my eyes. “Well either I adopt or I remain childfree. And I prefer to be a parent.”
I left it at that. But look at the goodies I bought:
An adorable little bib and spit up catcher (it probably has a name, but I don’t know what it is). I just couldn’t resist.
Now off to a business dinner in La Jolla…

Spit up catcher = burb cloth. Cute stuff there
Very cute.
I rolled my eyes with you. Some folks out there just need to get a clue about what’s appropriate to say and what’s not…but on to the purchases: how groovy!
Cute stuff! I knit using Clover Bamboo needles and I live in fear of the day one breaks on me. I know they are sturdy but if I go somewhere and find myself unable to knit…ack!
What a cute set!
I always wind up buying a new pair of double-point needles while on vacation – I break ‘em, I lose ‘em, I forget to bring the right size…I’m working on a collection of US2s from all of the 50 states. Seriously. It’s that bad.
Very cute stuff! I love those little out of the way stores.
As an adoptive parent, I actually did not take offense to the woman’s comment. It is brave to adopt. It’s harder than childbirth
You pick out the coolest baby stuff!
