The Orbit Is Cool

Everyone,

Thank you for your comments and thoughts on my last post. I agree with those of you who said that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to the naming issue, but we have to do what feels right to all parties. I believe that this is what we have achieved with me, AdoringHusband, and Josie.

And speaking of Josie (and moving on to more fun topics), she called today with an update from her doctor visit. She remains at 1 cm dilated and 40-50% effaced. The contractions are still mild and non-painful. I told her once again that she has to talk to her little girl and get her to sit tight until I return from my next trip. I’m off to Atlanta for the NASPAG meeting tomorrow through Saturday, my last pre-baby trip.

We then went on to dish about American Idol and our mutual distaste for Sanjaya. Am I the only one who thinks he’s like a creepy Michael Jackson without the singing or dancing talent? Both of us have promised that if Sanjaya wins, we won’t watch the show anymore. Hopefully next year they’ll change the rules such that Howard Stern and cronies won’t vote for the talentless just for fun.

After talking to her, I went and ordered her little present that we’re taking with us to the hospital. It will be here on Friday! I also reviewed the packing job AdoringHusband did for the onesies, diapers, and such that we will be taking with us down to Delaware. Unfortunately it looks like an overnight bag won’t cut it. We need a suitcase!

Last thing I did was to get the car seat inspected. I’ve tried for days to make appointments to get this done but people don’t call me back or there are no trained inspectors at the police station until June. Other people I’m told to call have cell phones that aren’t accepting messages. But then I found Ryan at Audi of Willow Grove. He did me a big favor.

“Can you get here within a half hour?” he asked

“You bet,” I said halfway out the door.

Unfortunately I didn’t know that the dealership had moved from the location listed on the Child Safety Inspection Station listing. So a half hour later I was at the abandoned old dealership. Crap! I did, however, remember to bring the phone number and found that I had passed the new location on my way to the old one. Double crap! I hightailed it to Willow Grove and found Ryan. I apologized profusely for keeping him waiting. He was cool.

We walked to my car and I opened the door.

“What is that?!” he asked with a little awe.

“That is The Orbit,” I replied, grinning. “It is way cool.”

“Sure is,” he agreed. “I’ve never seen one before.”

He tried to get the seat off. “It rotates?”

“Yep. Makes it easier to take the baby in and out.”

“Cool.”

He checked AdoringHusband’s installation and pronounced it safe. And we got cool points for the Orbit. Yay!

Of course you did. You have cool taste and are a cool person. Ok enough with the cool. Almost there Liana. You are almost there. where?.. the land of MOTHERHOOD.

  2. Yolanda says:

I’ve never seen an orbit in person but definitely looks cool on the website. Your baby girl is going to be all safe and sound :)

  3. Molls says:

    Wooooaaah!!
Orbit IS cool!! Ingenious! The mocha/tan model is delicious-looking, too!
I am so happy I popped on to the old board & linked onto check your site….the fantastic day is really almost HERE!! YAY!
Great to hear you went shopping for the wee garments with miss Millie, too. At least that’s one great thing about all the travel you do; now when are you going to be forced to go to Ohio & come shopping with me?!
I have to say this—-apropos the nasty little old lady and her pre-1960 attitude: I was raised an anti-racist and would NOT have been able to keep my mouth shut. I can see very well why at this time in your life you may be wanting to keep a lid on things and not let’em have it as often as “they” deserve. but whooooooaaahhh! She really was asking for it!
As I have many, many a time, my big Irish mouth would have let fly a “WHAT did you just say!?” and scared that old broad into drenching her Depends. I can be a bit fierce when I encounter that kind of thing, too.
I have complete confidence she did not say it with a kindly countenance & a sweet little old lady voice, but just as you seem to suggest: with a dismissive and disrespectful old biddy attitude.
How dare these people still try this, and where do they come from, the moon?? Alabama?!
Despite all my crazy mother’s severe deficits (as a mother), she did at least give me that righteous indignation to stand with my fellow human beings in the face of discrimination or injustice.
And despite the fact of these people still behaving like creatures, remember there are many more of us at your back. Too bad for them, if they choose to think and act in this way.
But back to more elevating topics, lol, you better get that designer on the nursery fast! Once tiny bundle gets home with you—-all I can say is, do all the reading now that you plan on doing for a good year or so :D

Oh, Liana, it’s getting closer and closer! I am getting so excited for you and AH. I check your blog obsessively hoping that it’s happened :)

You will be so in love and SO BUSY!

  5. Pioggia says:

So exciting! I do hope that baby holds still until you come back!

  6. jj says:

that ceremony sounds wonderful. great news. even greater news coming. I’ll be praying for you. Really, now. Take care.

  7. jj says:

the entrustment ceremony sounds like a wonderful concept. wonderful. awe and inspiring, indeed.

praying for a healthy labor and delivery for Ms. Josie and for the fam. good things are coming your way, lady. So happy for you and fam.

    later.
