Introducing…My Precious
t’s been ages since I’ve last posted. Let me give my usual apologies, BUT, there’s been one bit of coolness between all the too much work and no time to think that has peppered my life in recent weeks. The bit of fabulousness that I want to share with you could also be considered a bit of craziness, but hey, I’ll accept that it is both fabu and crazy!
I bought my new camera!
Yes I know that I’d only had my D60 for a year, but considering how zealously I’ve jumped into the hobby, it isn’t that surprising that I’d find myself pushing up against the limits of that entry level dSLR. So what to do, what to do? Go to the D300s or make the big jump to the D700? Considering my motto is Go big or go home! it probably isn’t much of a surprise to see that I chose the D700.
Nikon D700 12.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)
Oh my god, this is like camera nirvana! 51 focusing points. Max ISO of 25,000. It is too much!
I also splurged and got the
Nikon 50mm f/1.4G SIC SW Prime Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.
At first I called it, The Big Girl. But then there are too many inanimate objects named after women. Then I thought, The Big Boy. But that bugged me because of the implication that the big camera would be male. I considered The Big One for a nanosecond, but the trouble with that one is obvious. Instead, I landed on, My Precious (yes, like Golum in LOTR).
Immediately after receiving the Precious, I set about doing the one thing I never thought I’d do: to take a nice portrait of myself for my dear hubby’s Valentine’s Day present. This is no easy task since in most of my recent pictures, I could easily be confused with a water buffalo. My Precious, however, was up to the task. See what I created in my home portrait studio:
And see, this is the water buffalo:
You can actually tell us apart now! That’s the mark of a great camera!
Stay tuned for images from Monte Carlo….

I didn’t need the great camera to be able to tell you apart, but I will tell you that those pictures are GREAT! I’m glad you got the Precious. (that’s what my husband calls my truck, LOL)

Thanks, Kellie!
AWESOME pictures! Woot! And you do NOT look anything like a water buffalo.

You would be surprised at how often I’ve been confused with a water buffalo. That is when I’m not being confused with a hippo!
Thanks!
You are absolutely stunning.
Is the water buffalo reference to the Penn incident?
No, my friend (you’re getting as paranoid as I am!). It’s just one of the animals that people tend to confuse me with.
Oh goodness, is that a hippo in that car? No, it’s just Liana!
And thanks for the compliment.
You are too silly my dear!

All I have to say is 3 words. BEAU TI FUL!
You are too sweet! Thanks!
Love that you splurged on precious! Your photos are gorgeous (which obviously translates into . . . you are too!) And the water buffalo is beautiful in his or her own right, but no resemblance that I can see here . . .
Thank you, my friend. I can’t tell you how much of a difference it is from the D60!!!
Nice work. Saw you on the #d700. I have the same set up. D700 and 50mm f1.4 love it
Nice work… Keep it up. I have the d700 and 50 f1.4

Angelo, thanks for stopping by. I’m shooting as much as I can. If only there were more hours in the day!
I need to take lessons from you. I have a D700 and am a bit lost about how to get the best out of it. Help!

Girl, you have a D700?!! What glass do you have? Are you comfortable shooting in manual or do you prefer aperture or shutter priority?
Beautiful pics of you – I love the precious, & I fully support going for bust. Why buy something inbetween
when this would have been down the line anyway, LOL!
Thanks Angela! And that was exactly my rationale. I do wish I had that 24-70 2.8L lens that I could have afforded had I bought the D300, but it will wait…yes it will!
Liana, these portraits are beautiful. You’re a very talented photographer! Celia is in pigtails now, with a fairly straight part…
Patti,
So good to hear from you!! Thank you (though Mr. Adobe Photoshop did the bulk of the work!). And I want to see pictures of Miss Celia with her pigtails and fairly straight part!
